You can also utilize any of the techniques we cover in this blog in conjunction with the brain training you do at our center. In fact, we encourage it!

What Is Performance Training?

Essentially, performance training is working to be the best you can possibly be. For athletes who visit our brain training center in Denver, that often means using our GyroStim technology to increase reaction times. Many athletes are coming to realize that training their body is simply not enough to get ahead — you must also train your mind. Sports performance training often combines both physical and mental training to help athletes prepare for their sport.

Performance training is also sports-specific, meaning that the way a runner trains will be different from how a soccer player trains, instead of general fitness or strength activities that could translate across sports. Performance training also utilizes training technology, like the GyroStim, and other advancements in sports science.

Nutrition and Food Science

Food is fuel — and that fuel is especially important for athletes. Sports nutrition is a growing field, and a sound nutritional plan helps athletes perform at the top of their game. A professional sports dietitian can create a food plan for the athlete's specific needs. It’s similar to how our brain training center develops a plan specific for each client to help them get the results they’re looking for.

In terms of nutrition, there is an optimal balance between carbohydrates and fluid intake during athletic events, as well as longer term nutrition goals like eating protein-heavy meals to build muscle mass. There’s also a wide variety of pre-workout drinks and post-workout protein shakes that can be added to the diet to increase sports performance.

Activity Trackers

Activity trackers, or fitness trackers, have radically changed the way athletes train and the way that athletic trainers monitor the athletes’ health. Since the invention of these wearable computers, athletes have been able to both plan and measure their workouts, but also decrease the risk of dehydration, heart attacks, and more. These devices can measure pulse rate and temperatures in real time, and are now relatively inexpensive and available for the general public as well as professional athletes.

Fitness trackers are a powerful tool to help you understand your body so that you can both work harder and recover smarter. They’re also a great way to track data over time, so you can see the results of your efforts and how you can make adjustments to improve. They can even help you sleep better by tracking how long and how deeply you sleep each night.

Physical Therapy

There is going to be a time when an athlete will get injured and need some kind of physical therapy to restore function to the injured body part. Advancements in sports science have helped physical therapists create sports-specific rehab plans focused on getting the athlete back to optimal performance levels. Many physical therapists take a holistic approach, looking to not only rehab the specific injury, but also strengthen weak areas that could have caused the injury in the first place. Here at NeuraPerformance Brain Center, we often help athletes who are recovering from injuries, like a concussion, get back into brain-shape. We think holistically as well, and understand how brain health affects the entire body.

Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopic surgery is a minimally-invasive way to treat joint and tendon problems common in sports. Prior to this advancement in sports medicine, surgeons would need to make larger incisions and use open surgical techniques that created much longer, and more painful, recovery periods.
