Why Do We Need Oxygen? Part 2

In a previous blog post, we discussed the role of oxygen within the body and why we need it in order to survive. Do you remember how the body’s cells synthesize ATP to energize its functions? This process occurs within the mitochondria, an organelle found in most cells. Unfortunately, age, poor diet and lifestyle choices, and stress factors can all deplete a cell’s mitochondria, which means the body is unable to produce as much energy. One method for improving mitochondrial health is increasing the amount of oxygen in the cells, such as through hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Whereas you provide your body with oxygen via respiration throughout the day, many of your body’s cells may not be receiving the oxygen they need to function at the optimal level. In order to provide your body’s cells with as much oxygen as possible, why not try hyperbaric oxygen therapy? The hyperbaric oxygen chamber creates an environment where you are inhaling pure oxygen within air pressure that is triple the normal pressure. This environment encourages oxygen to reach tissues all over the body.

How Does HBOT Help Me Heal?

The body requires oxygen to heal, but many injuries and conditions result in or result from a lack of adequate oxygen in the damaged area of the body. Through hyperbaric oxygen therapy, the areas of the body needing oxygen the most are able to get what they need in order to kill bacteria and promote the growth of new blood vessels.

Conditions Improved By HBOT Include

  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Compartment syndrome or crush injuries
  • Intracranial Abscess
  • Decompression Sickness (the bends)
  • Diabetic and selected wounds
  • Anemia (exception blood loss)
  • Etc.
