What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Learn about HBOT
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is one of the treatment options we use at our brain center. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is an effective treatment for a wide range of conditions, and we utilize it as part of comprehensive treatment plans. Learn more about HBOT and contact Plasticity Centers in Denver, Atlanta, or Orlando to schedule an appointment.
Why Is HBOT Important?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy was created to treat the “bends” in divers, but it is now a popular element of treatment plans for a wide range of conditions. Here at Plasticity Centers, we use it to accelerate wound healing and help treat concussions, strokes, cerebral palsy, and more.
How Does HBOT Work?
The increased oxygen content in HBOT allows for additional oxygen to dissolve into your blood, increasing the amount of oxygen available to cells. HBOT reduces swelling and encourages the formation of new connective tissue and skin cells.
What To Expect From HBOT
During hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you will enter a small chamber designed either for one or two people. The pressure in the chamber is about two to three times normal air pressure and many say the process feels similar to that of flying an airplane. You can comfortably read or relax while in the hyperbaric chamber.
After Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
After your therapy session, our team will assess you by looking in your ears and taking your blood pressure and pulse. To benefit from HBOT, you will most likely need more than one session. Here at Plasticity Centers, HBOT is usually one part of a comprehensive treatment plan. If you’re interested in HBOT, contact our team.
