Preparing For A Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Session

Do you have a hyperbaric oxygen therapy session scheduled with our Denver brain center or are considering giving this amazing technology a try? At NeuraPerformance Brain Center, we understand how nerve-racking it can be to try a new treatment for the first time, so we’ve decided to give you a few tips on preparing for your HBOT treatment series. There are a few things you should be aware of if considering this therapy.

Alert Our Practitioners If

  • hbotYou currently have a cold, the flu, other congestion, or an ear or sinus infection.
  • You are currently taking any prescription or nonprescription medications.
  • You’ve been experiencing nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • You have not eaten yet on the day of your session.
  • There is a possibility that you may be pregnant.

When Preparing For Your HBOT Session

  • Do not wear makeup, deodorant, perfume, hair products, wigs, or jewelry.
  • If you smoke or use other tobacco products, quit while receiving treatment.
  • Do not drink alcohol or any carbonated beverages for four or more hours prior.
  • Keep your energy up with meals or snacks high in protein.
  • Plan to wear clothing that is clean and made of cotton.

Expect Minimal Unpleasantness

Most patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy experience a full feeling in their ears. If you’ve ever driven up into the Rockies or ridden in an airplane, you already know what this feels like. This feeling is caused by the pressurization of the chamber, and it is typically temporary. If you experience this during your HBOT session, try yawning or swallowing to equalize the pressure.
